Mughal period was a period of great architectural achievements. Mughal rulers were great proponents of elaborate architectural designs. The Mughal preference for geometric patterns is exemplified in almost all their architectural marvels. Hexagonal, octagonal and floral patterns are repeated to create an intricate pattern which was then either inlayed with gemstones and carved in metal or marble and called jail work.
