Goonj - Brass Hoop Earrings

From the Ankahee collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Goonj takes its name from the Urdu word for echo and reflects the words, gestures and moments that stay with us long after they have passed. Each earring is a brass hoop whose openwork is built from overlapping arcs that repeat outward like ripples, held inside a twisted rope border.

Goonj is made entirely in brass, with no stone, so the pattern carries the whole design. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and its warm gold color has made it a staple of South Asian metalwork for centuries, from vessels to jewelry. The arcs are pierced through the metal and the edges finished by hand, and the twisted rope border gives the outline its fine, textured line.

Because the arcs overlap, the pattern reads as depth rather than a flat cutout, which makes the hoop look larger than its 1.5 Inches. The openwork keeps the pair light on the ear, and a hinged wire closes it securely.
