Justaju - Black Jasper Brass Earrings

From the Ankahee collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Justaju takes its name from the Urdu word for search and reflects the search for something deeply felt but not yet named. Each earring is a brass fan of fine rods radiating from one round black jasper cabochon set in a bezel, every rod ending in a tiny cluster of three brass beads.

The stone is natural black jasper from Balochistan, Pakistan. Jasper is opaque microcrystalline quartz colored by mineral impurities, and black is among its deepest tones. Cut as a cabochon, the surface reads as one solid, glossy black, which gives the fan a fixed center to radiate from. At about 7 on the Mohs scale, it is hard enough to resist scratching in daily wear.

The rods spread in a semicircle, so the pair looks wider than its 1.4 Inch size and stays light on the ear. The two top rods carry a twisted rope texture, and each earring hangs from a curved hook wire.

Made at Orah Jewels and Crafts in Lahore, with jasper sourced directly from Balochistan over twelve years and brasswork finished by hand. One pair.
