Lafz - Black Jasper and Pearl Brass Earrings

From the Ankahee collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Lafz takes its name from the Urdu word for a word and reflects the weight a single word can carry when so much remains unsaid. Each earring is a scalloped brass hoop with a serrated inner edge that narrows to a point at the base, where small pearl beads gather and one round black jasper bead hangs at the tip.

The stones are natural black jasper from Balochistan, Pakistan, and pearl. Jasper is opaque microcrystalline quartz, formed when silica rich sediment is cemented into fine grained stone and colored by mineral impurities, and that fine grain takes a smooth, even polish. Pearls are organic, built layer by layer from nacre inside a mollusk, which gives them a soft luster. The glossy black bead and the pale pearls read as a clean contrast against the matte brass. Jasper has been worked into beads and seals across this region since the Indus Valley civilization.

The scalloped outline and serrated edge give the hoop a lacework texture, and the pearls move gently at the base as you turn your head. A hinged wire closes the hoop. At 1.5 Inches, the pair stays light and sits close to the ear.
