The Shabnam pendant by Orah Jewels features a raw emerald from Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa nestled within organically shaped sterling silver. The name Shabnam means dewdrop in Urdu - the freeform silver setting echoes that: a curve without fixed geometry, shaped to hold the stone rather than define it.
Swat emeralds form in metamorphic schist under the pressures of the Hindu Kush range. Their green is caused by chromium and vanadium within the crystal lattice. Kept raw, the stone shows this origin clearly - the surface texture, the natural inclusions, the depth of green that cutting tends to uniformize.
