Riwaayat - Natural Ruby Silver Necklace

From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a necklace assembled from two stones that have almost nothing structurally in common. Riwaayat pairs raw Ruby ,sourced from Afghanistan, connected along a silver structure where irregularly formed silver elements link the stones in a sequence that follows the organic outline of each piece of rough rather than imposing a uniform spacing or shape.

Ruby is corundum colored red by chromium, one of the hardest minerals on earth at 9 on the Mohs scale. Afghan ruby from Badakhshan tends toward a warm, slightly pinkish red rather than the pure blood red of Burmese material, and the raw form preserves the crystal's original surface, its slight translucency visible where the stone is thinner.

The necklace falls at 16 inches, the stones distributed along the front so several are visible at the collarbone at any given position. The piece is substantial and reads as a statement from across a room while remaining light enough that the weight is not felt after the first hour of wear.
