Zar Noor - Turquoise Silver Necklace
From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Zar Noor is a silver pendant set entirely in turquoise, its name meaning golden light, drawn from the way sunlight moves across the tile work of the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta.
Turquoise is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum, its sky blue produced by copper held within the stone's structure while trace iron gives some stones a faint green cast at the edges. The turquoise in Zar Noor is sourced from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, the source that has supplied the world's finest turquoise for over two thousand years. The stone reached Sindh through the same Persian trade networks that carried the craftsmen who tiled the Shah Jahan Mosque, giving this pendant a direct material link to the artistic heritage of the region.
At 11 inches, Zar Noor sits low on the chest, the turquoise set to catch light along its full surface. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One piece.
