Mehrab - Nephrite Jade Brass Earrings
From the Sindhi Craft series by Orah Jewels and Crafts. Mehrab takes its name from the arched niche found in mosque architecture, the directional marker toward Mecca. The patterned face of this earring draws from the same arched geometry that appears across Hala's shrines and tilework.
The stone is natural nephrite jade sourced from District Bajaur, KPK. Nephrite is a calcium magnesium silicate mineral that forms in dense, interlocking fibrous structures, giving it a toughness greater than most gemstones. The color in Bajaur nephrite runs from olive to a muted mid green, with a waxy luster that absorbs rather than reflects light. It is distinct from jadeite in its texture and tone, quieter and more earthy in character.
The earrings are cast in brass and drop 2 inches from the ear. The warm metal sits in complement with the cool green of the jade, and the Hala inspired patterning on the face gives the piece its craft identity.
Crafted at Orah Jewels and Crafts in Lahore, drawing on twelve years of direct gemstone sourcing across Pakistan. One pair, one stone configuration.
