Jahan Pari - Turquoise Silver Earrings

Rs.44,500

From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Jahan Pari is a pair of silver earrings set entirely in turquoise, carrying the single color that dominates the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, where cobalt blue and turquoise glazed tiles cover ninety three domes in one of the most elaborate tile displays in the subcontinent.

Turquoise is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum, and its sky blue color comes directly from the copper held within the stone's structure, while trace iron accounts for the faint green some stones show at the edges. The turquoise in Jahan Pari is sourced from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, a source that has supplied the world's most prized turquoise for over two thousand years and reached Sindh along the same Persian trade routes that brought Kashani tile craftsmen to build the mosque this collection is named for. Turquoise is porous, and it responds to the oils of the skin with wear, so a piece like Jahan Pari will deepen in tone gradually the longer it stays on the ear rather than staying fixed the way a harder stone would.

At 2.2 inches, Jahan Pari is sized for daily wear rather than as a statement piece, the turquoise set to catch light along its full surface rather than being framed too heavily by the silver around it, keeping the stone as the visible element rather than the setting. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One pair.
