Gulnaz - Rose Quartz and Garnet Silver Ring

Rs.84,500

From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a ring that pairs two stones that should not be natural companions but read as exactly right together. Gulnaz holds an uncut Rose Quartz at center, its rough surface left as it came from the earth, flanked by faceted Garnet stones that deliver deep red in sharp contrast to the dusty pink of the quartz. The silver setting frames both without mediating between them.

Rose Quartz is a variety of quartz colored by microscopic inclusions of fibrous dumortierite or by titanium and iron traces distributed through the silicon dioxide lattice, which produces the characteristic soft, cloudy pink rather than the transparent color of faceted quartz. The uncut form used in Gulnaz preserves the original surface character of the rough, where light enters the stone and scatters through the internal inclusions rather than refracting cleanly, giving the stone a glow that faceting would eliminate. Garnet beside it operates entirely differently. The most common varieties draw their deep red from iron and manganese within the silicate structure, and when faceted they produce a brilliance that amplifies their color through internal reflection. The contrast in surface finish between the two stones is the design. One is matte and diffuse, one is sharp and internally lit.

The setting holds the rose quartz in a low open bezel, the garnet stones in smaller tight settings on either side. The ring profile is rounded and compact, sized at US 6.5, which places the stones centrally on the finger without spreading past the knuckle edges. It works as a standalone piece or alongside a plain band on the same hand.

Made at the Orah Jewels facility in Lahore. Both stones are natural, unenhanced. One piece.
