Sohrang - Mother of Pearl and Jasper Silver Earrings

Rs.34,500

From the Sunheri Shaam collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, earrings rooted in two of Pakistan's most evocative landscapes. Sohrang pairs mother of pearl from Gwadar with red jasper from Baluchistan, the iridescent surface of the sea and the grounded warmth of the desert in a single piece. It is a combination that speaks directly to the breadth of this country's natural wealth.

Mother of pearl from Gwadar, the port city on Pakistan's Makran Coast, carries a quality of iridescence shaped by the particular mineral composition of the Arabian Sea's warm waters. It is nacre: the same material that lines the interior of mollusks and, under the right conditions, produces pearls. In its sheet form, it presents a shifting surface of color, white, cream, soft pink, and silver — that moves with light rather than reflecting it. In jewelry, mother of pearl has been used across cultures for millennia, from Indus Valley inlay work to the buttons of formal dress shirts to the dials of fine watches.

Red jasper from Baluchistan anchors this iridescence with weight and warmth. Opaque where the mother of pearl is translucent, matte where it is luminous, earthy where it is oceanic. Together they produce a combination that is immediately legible as natural and considered , two materials that have no business being as visually harmonious as they are.
