Zunaira - Natural Emerald Silver Ring

From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a ring that pairs two stones rather than one. Zunaira holds a pair of uncut Emerald pieces from Swat Valley set side by side in silver, the rough surfaces left as they formed, each stone reading slightly differently in color and texture while remaining clearly of the same origin.

Emerald from Swat Valley, KPK is among the most geologically significant in the world. The valley sits at a junction of the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates where intense heat and pressure created the metamorphic schist formations in which Swat's emeralds formed. The green in Swat emerald is produced by chromium and vanadium within the beryl crystal structure, the same mechanism as Colombian emerald but expressed here in a slightly warmer, more verdant tone that is distinct from African material. Uncut stones in Zunaira retain the hexagonal crystal habit of beryl, their surfaces showing the natural fracture patterns and growth striations of formation rather than the geometry of a lapidary. Each stone carries a slight variation in saturation, so the pair is not identical but complementary. The stones for this ring were cut and inspected at the Orah Jewels lapidary in Lahore before setting.

The two stones sit in adjacent bezels on a plain silver band, the settings level and close, neither stone elevated above the other. The total surface reads wide and confident on the finger without the height of a solitaire. At US size 7, the stones span across but do not extend past the knuckle line. The silver finish is polished.
