Jahan Bano - White Topaz and Turquoise Silver Bracelet

From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Jahan Bano is an adjustable silver cuff set with white topaz and turquoise, pairing a clear brilliant stone with the sky blue that defines the glazed tile work of the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, the seventeenth century mosque this collection takes its name from.

White topaz is an aluminum silicate that forms inside granite pegmatites, the large slow cooling pockets of mineral rich melt that give a crystal time to grow clear and well formed. Without the trace elements that tint other topaz blue or golden, the white variety relies on cut and clarity for its brilliance, and it was historically used as one of the more convincing substitutes for diamond before modern simulants existed. The white topaz in Jahan Bano is sourced from the Skardu Valley in Gilgit Baltistan, a region whose pegmatite fields have produced some of Pakistan's clearest topaz for decades.

Set beside the topaz is turquoise from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province that have supplied the world's most prized turquoise for over two thousand years, its sky blue color produced by copper bound into the stone's structure. This is the same Persian turquoise that reached Sindh through the trade and craft networks that built the Shah Jahan Mosque, giving Jahan Bano a direct material link to the building the collection is drawn from.

The cuff form in Jahan Bano is open and adjustable, sized at 2.5 inches to sit close to the wrist without a clasp, and finished to be worn alone or stacked with other pieces without adding bulk. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One piece.
