Sitara Gul - Lapis Lazuli Brass Earrings

Rs.4,000

From the Gulzar collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Sitara Gul, which translates to "star flower" in Urdu, is a pair of Lapis Lazuli earrings set in aged brass. The name describes the piece in two words: a dense blue stone, flecked with gold, seated in a form that reads as the convergence of sky and bloom. At 1.6 inches, the earring has presence without weight.

Lapis Lazuli in this collection is sourced from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, the same mountain region that supplied the ancient world's blue for over seven thousand years without interruption. The color is produced by lazurite, a tectosilicate mineral in the sodalite group, whose characteristic ultramarine is among the most stable blues found in nature. The gold toned flecks embedded across the face of the stone are pyrite inclusions, iron sulfide crystals that grew alongside the lazurite in the calcium rich host rock under the high pressure metamorphic conditions specific to Badakhshan's highlands. The white streaking visible in some specimens is calcite. This is not a decorative stone. It is a geological record that has been recognized as such for six thousand years, used as pigment, as offering, as ornament, and in Sitara Gul it is held in brass and worn.

The earring drop in Sitara Gul measures 1.6 inches and sits slightly off the earlobe, creating a small but clear movement when worn. The floral silhouette of the form is reinforced by the stone's character rather than working against it: the blue and gold of lapis reads as naturally botanical without the design having to describe it. The brass setting is aged to a warm oxidized finish that anchors the cooler stone tones. Standard hook fitting with clearance for comfortable full-day wear.

Made at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility in Lahore, Sitara Gul is assembled by hand by Orah's artisans. Orah sources Lapis Lazuli directly from Badakhshan as part of a sourcing network built over more than twelve years in Pakistan's gemstone trade. One pair.
