Riwaayat - Natural Ruby and Rose Quartz Silver Necklace
From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a necklace assembled from two stones that have almost nothing structurally in common. Riwaayat pairs raw Ruby and Rose Quartz, both sourced from Afghanistan, connected along a silver structure where irregularly formed silver elements link the stones in a sequence that follows the organic outline of each piece of rough rather than imposing a uniform spacing or shape.
Ruby is corundum colored red by chromium, one of the hardest minerals on earth at 9 on the Mohs scale. Afghan ruby from Badakhshan tends toward a warm, slightly pinkish red rather than the pure blood red of Burmese material, and the raw form preserves the crystal's original surface, its slight translucency visible where the stone is thinner. Rose Quartz beside it carries a soft, milky pink from fibrous dumortierite inclusions or trace titanium distributed through silicon dioxide, the color diffuse and cloudy rather than saturated. The combination reads as a conversation between heat and softness, the hard deep red of the ruby against the pale dusty pink of the quartz, both stones occupying the same pink spectrum but from completely different geological contexts. The irregular silver connectors between them echo the asymmetry of the stones rather than correcting for it.
The necklace falls at 16 inches, the stones distributed along the front so several are visible at the collarbone at any given position. The piece is substantial and reads as a statement from across a room while remaining light enough that the weight is not felt after the first hour of wear.
Made at the Orah Jewels facility in Lahore. Both stones natural and raw, sourced from Afghanistan through our direct supply network. One piece.
