Bahaar - Tourmaline and Aquamarine Silver Ring

Rs.48,500

From the Satrangi collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Bahaar pairs two stones that rarely appear together in a single setting: a bicolor tourmaline and a clear aquamarine, both set in sterling silver with a 24k gold plated finish. The word bahaar means spring in Urdu, and the name holds in the color logic of the ring: tourmaline shifting between two tones in one crystal, aquamarine carrying the pale clarity of early morning light. Together they create a composition that is chromatic and considered rather than simply decorative.

Bicolor tourmaline is one of the more structurally unusual gemstones in the mineral world. Tourmaline grows as a trigonal crystal in pegmatite rock formations, and its color is determined by trace elements absorbed during growth. When the chemical environment of the host rock shifts during crystal formation, the resulting stone carries two distinct color zones within one specimen: in Bahaar, the transition runs across the face of the stone, each zone maintaining its own saturation rather than blending into the other. The aquamarine beside it is a variety of beryl, colored by iron in the crystal lattice to produce its characteristic blue green transparency. Aquamarine from Pakistan's Skardu Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan is considered among the finest in the world, its clarity and pale saturation a direct result of the high altitude pegmatite deposits in the Karakoram range.

The ring is set in sterling silver with a 24k gold plate that bridges the warm and cool tones of the two stones. Both stones are table cut and mounted in individual settings that allow light to enter from the sides, animating the color of each stone through the day. At US size 7.5, the face sits at a moderate height on the finger, wide enough to present both stones clearly without extending beyond the knuckle. The proportions are suited to daily wear as much as occasion wear.

Made at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility in Lahore. Orah Jewels sources its aquamarine from Skardu and its tourmaline through a direct supply network built across twelve years of trade in Pakistani and Afghan gemstones. Each stone is selected individually before setting. One piece.
