Ranaai - Natural Emerald Earrings

Raw emeralds from Swat Valley, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - one of Pakistan's most significant gemstone-producing regions - are set in sterling silver in these handmade earrings. The stones are kept in their natural, uncut form: the surface texture, the inclusions, the variation in green from stone to stone are all retained rather than polished away.

Swat emeralds form in metamorphic schist under the geological pressures that produce the Hindu Kush range. Their green is caused by chromium and vanadium in the crystal lattice - the same composition that drives emerald value globally, found here in Pakistan's own mountains.
