Karam - Natural Lapis Lazuli Wall Frame

A wall frame by Orah Jewels and Crafts carrying the opening verse of Surah Al-Kawthar, the shortest surah in the Quran and among the most layered in meaning:

إِنَّا أَعْطَيْنَاكَ الْكَوْثَرَ

"Indeed, We have granted you abundant goodness." (Surah Al-Kawthar, 108:1)

The calligraphy is rendered in gold-toned brass and mounted against a deep velvet ground within a substantial outer frame. Set within the metalwork are stones of natural lapis lazuli, sourced from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, the ancient deposit that has supplied the world's finest lapis for over six thousand years. Lapis is a metamorphic rock composed of lazurite, which produces the deep indigo color, calcite, which softens and distributes through the matrix, and pyrite, which appears as fine golden flecks across the surface. The proportion of these three minerals determines quality: Badakhshan lapis carries a high lazurite ratio with evenly distributed pyrite, a standard that other global deposits have not matched. In this frame, the stones sit within the brass calligraphy as points of concentrated color, the deep blue of the lapis and the warm gold of the metal completing each other in a pairing that has appeared in Islamic ornamental art for centuries.

The outer frame is a wide gold-toned molding with a layered architectural profile. The velvet ground behind the calligraphy gives the composition depth and absorbs light rather than reflecting it, so the brass script and the lapis stones read with full clarity against the dark field. The piece measures 16 x 22 inches, a size suited to a main wall: a dining room, an entrance hall, a sitting room, or a dedicated display.
