Neelkaar - Lapis Lazuli Silver Ring
Neelkaar is an adjustable silver ring by Orah Jewels and Crafts, set with a rectangular lapis lazuli gemstone in a clean, contemporary setting. Its rich blue color and natural golden flecks make every piece unique, while the open band offers a comfortable, versatile fit.
The lapis lazuli in Neelkaar is sourced from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, the same high altitude deposits that have supplied the stone for more than six thousand years, making it one of the oldest continuously mined gemstone materials in recorded history. Its deep blue color comes from lazurite, a mineral that forms within the rock under specific metamorphic conditions, while the natural flecks of pyrite running through the stone are threads of iron sulfide that crystallized alongside the lazurite during formation. Ancient traders carried lapis west along routes that eventually reached Egypt and Mesopotamia, where it was ground into ultramarine pigment. No two stones show quite the same pattern of gold through blue, which is what gives each ring its individual character.
The rectangular cut gives the lapis a clean, architectural presence rather than a rounded, decorative one, and the open band adjusts to fit a range of finger sizes without needing to be resized. It sits flat against the finger and wears equally well alone or alongside other rings.
