Mehfooz - Black Jasper Brass Earrings

From the Ankahee collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Mehfooz takes its name from the Urdu word for protected and is inspired by the people and memories we carry safely within us. Each earring is a rounded triangle of polished black jasper set in a brass bezel, with three flat brass bars hanging beneath it on small links.

The stone is natural black jasper from Balochistan, Pakistan. Jasper is opaque microcrystalline quartz colored by mineral impurities, and black is among its deepest tones. The triangular cabochon keeps a broad, flat face, so the polish reads as one clean shape of dark glass. At about 7 on the Mohs scale it resists scratching, which matters for a stone this large worn daily.

The three bars swing independently on their links, so the pair moves with every step and catches the light against the black stone. The bars are flat and plain, which balances the polished stone above and keeps the pair light for its 2 Inch length.
