Daira - Pink Tourmaline and Turquoise Silver Necklace
From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Daira is a silver pendant set with pink tourmaline and turquoise, balancing warm rose against cool blue in a design rooted in the tile work of the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta.
Pink tourmaline, also called rubellite, is a boron silicate mineral that gets its rose color from trace manganese locked into the crystal during formation. The pink tourmaline in Daira is sourced from Nuristan province in Afghanistan, from the pegmatite fields around Paprok, where miners work narrow hand cut tunnels in the Kamdesh district to extract crystals prized for their saturated, unbleached color. Tourmaline from this region is known for sharp color zoning, one shade giving way abruptly to another within a single crystal, a signature of the pegmatite it grew in.
Set against the tourmaline is turquoise from Iran, sourced from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, its sky blue produced by copper bound into the stone's structure. Persian turquoise reached Sindh along the same trade routes that carried the craftsmen who tiled Shah Jahan Mosque, giving Daira a material link to the mosque this collection draws from.
At 9.3 inches, Daira sets warmth against cool blue in a pendant built to be worn close. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One piece.
