Naqsh - Turquoise and White Topaz Silver Necklace
From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Naqsh is a silver pendant set with turquoise and white topaz, its name taken from the intricate patterns of the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, where geometric brickwork and glazed tile cover every arch.
Turquoise is a hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum, and in Naqsh it plays the role of ground color, the even blue field against which the sharper cut of the topaz stands out. The turquoise is sourced from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, a source worked for over two thousand years and the same trade route that once carried Persian tile makers toward Sindh.
Set against the turquoise is white topaz, an aluminum silicate that forms inside granite pegmatites, the slow cooling mineral pockets that give a crystal room to grow clear and faceted. Cut with flat, angled faces, the topaz in Naqsh throws small points of light across the pendant, echoing the geometric brickwork the piece is named for. The white topaz is sourced from the Skardu Valley in Gilgit Baltistan, a region whose pegmatite fields have produced some of Pakistan's clearest topaz for decades.
At 9.5 inches, Naqsh sets the faceted sparkle of the topaz against the flat plane of the turquoise, a pairing built around texture as much as color. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One piece.
