Rang-e-Jahan - Turquoise and White Topaz Silver Necklace

Rs.44,500

From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Rang-e-Jahan is a silver pendant set with turquoise and white topaz, named for the rich color of the tile work at the Shah Jahan Mosque in Thatta, where cobalt blue, turquoise and white glazed tiles cover ninety three domes.

The turquoise in Rang-e-Jahan is sourced from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, a source that has supplied the world's most prized turquoise for over two thousand years, its color produced by copper held within the stone's structure. Persian turquoise reached Sindh along the trade routes that carried the same tile craft used at the mosque.

Paired with the turquoise is white topaz from the Skardu Valley in Gilgit Baltistan, an aluminum silicate formed inside granite pegmatites over long, slow cooling periods that allow the crystal to grow clear. Without the trace elements that color other topaz blue or golden, the white variety depends on cut and clarity for its brilliance.

At 9.5 inches, Rang-e-Jahan carries the mosque's color palette in miniature, the blue of the turquoise set against the clear sparkle of the topaz. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One piece.
