Seharzaad - Lapis Lazuli Brass Necklace

Rs.3,250

From the Gulzar collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Seharzaad is a Lapis Lazuli brass pendant with a twin leaf charm. The name evokes the legendary storyteller Scheherazade, and the piece carries that same quality of quiet depth: a dense blue stone, a delicate botanical detail, and the warm grounding of aged brass. The pendant hangs on a 9.4 inch brass chain designed to sit at the collarbone.

Lapis Lazuli is sourced by Orah directly from Badakhshan, Afghanistan, the mountainous province that has been the world's primary and uninterrupted source of this stone since the Neolithic period. The color is produced by lazurite, a member of the sodalite mineral group, responsible for an ultramarine that does not shift or fade because it is a structural property of the mineral rather than a surface quality. The name "lapis lazuli" itself combines Latin and Arabic roots meaning "stone of heaven," a designation given by medieval traders who moved it overland from Badakhshan through Persia and into European markets, where it commanded prices above gold. The gold toned flecks across the stone's face are pyrite inclusions, iron sulfide crystals that formed within the lazurite host rock under the specific metamorphic conditions of Badakhshan's geology. In Seharzaad, the stone selected carries a strong continuous blue tone with a measured distribution of pyrite, present enough to read as gold without interrupting the blue's depth.

The twin leaf charm sits above the lapis stone in Seharzaad, extending the pendant's proportions upward while maintaining the stone as the point of the design. At 9.4 inches of chain length, this piece positions at the collarbone, close and present without falling. The aged brass leaf detail and setting tie the warm chain to the warm charm, with the lapis providing the blue against that warmth. The botanical reference in the leaf form fits the Gulzar collection's garden-rooted naming without becoming decorative. This is a piece that works alone as the single element of a neckline, or with other pieces at different lengths.

Made at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility in Lahore, Seharzaad is assembled by hand by Orah's artisans. Lapis Lazuli is sourced directly from Badakhshan as part of Orah's twelve-year supply relationship with the region. One piece.
