Thatta - Turquoise and Tourmaline Silver Earrings

Rs.56,500

From the Jahan collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Thatta is a pair of silver earrings named for the historic city itself, home to the Shah Jahan Mosque, and set with turquoise and tourmaline from Afghanistan.

The turquoise in Thatta, known locally as feroza, is sourced from Iran, from the Neyshabur mines in Khorasan province, its sky blue produced by copper bound into the stone's structure, a source that has supplied the world's most prized turquoise for over two thousand years.

Set against the turquoise is tourmaline from Nuristan province in Afghanistan, a boron silicate mineral pulled from pegmatite fields around Paprok and Kunar, where crystals form in narrow, hand cut tunnels high in the mountains. Afghan tourmaline is known for sharp, unblended zones of color within a single crystal, a mark of the pegmatite conditions it grew under.

At 1.2 inches, Thatta pairs the steady blue of the turquoise with the more varied color of the tourmaline, a combination that mirrors the layered tile work of the city the earrings are named for. Made in Lahore at the Orah Jewels and Crafts facility. One pair.
