Amber - Opal Silver Ring

From the Sunheri Shaam collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Amber is a ring set with a natural Australian opal at its center, finished in 24k gold plating with delicate silver granules surrounding the stone.

Opal forms as silica rich water deposits microscopic spheres of silica gel inside rock cavities over long geological periods. When those spheres line up with enough uniformity, they diffract light into the shifting bands of color known as play of color, an optical effect unique to opal among gemstones. Australia supplies the vast majority of the world's precious opal, and the stone set into Amber was chosen for a warm, golden cast to its play of color that pairs naturally with the gold plating around it.

The granule work on the band, small spheres of silver applied by hand before gold plating, is a technique with roots across ancient Central Asian and Mediterranean jewelry, giving the setting a textured, handmade quality that a smooth band would not carry.
