Sukoon - Ruby Silver Ring

From the Sunheri Shaam collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Sukoon takes its name from the Urdu word for peace, a fitting title for a ring built around a single, quiet gesture: a natural ruby set low against a silver band traced with a delicate floral pattern, finished in 24k gold plating.

The ruby in Sukoon comes from Afghanistan, from deposits in the Badakhshan region that have supplied red corundum to South Asian courts since well before the Mughal era. Ruby's color comes from trace chromium locked into the crystal at formation, the same element that gives fine ruby its characteristic glow under direct light. Afghan stones are prized for a depth of red that holds steady rather than shifting toward pink or brown, a quality gemologists look for first when grading the stone.

The floral granule work on the band is done by hand, tiny spheres of silver built up around the setting, a technique with roots across Central Asian and Middle Eastern jewelry traditions. Finished in 24k gold plating, the warmth of the metal sits close to the red of the ruby rather than competing with it.
