Surkh - Ruby and White Topaz Silver Ring

Rs.82,500

From the Sunheri Shaam collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Surkh means crimson in Urdu, a direct name for a ring built around a substantial three carat natural Afghan ruby, its red brilliance sharpened by an accent of white topaz.

Afghanistan's Badakhshan region has supplied ruby to South Asian courts for centuries, the stone's red produced by trace chromium locked into the corundum during formation, the same element responsible for the glow fine ruby shows under direct light. At three carats, the ruby in Surkh is large enough that its color reads clearly from a distance, not a detail to be discovered up close but a statement visible across a room.

The white topaz set alongside it adds brilliance without competing for attention, small brilliantly faceted stones chosen for the clean, colorless fire that comes from cutting topaz correctly rather than from any trace element in the stone itself. Together they read as weight and sparkle, the ruby carrying the color, the topaz carrying the light.
