Shahpar - Mother of Pearl and Peridot Silver Ring
From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a ring built on the tension between materials. Shahpar places a central disc of Mother of Pearl between paired stones of Sapphire and Peridot, three materials that share almost nothing in common optically, yet settle into each other with a logic that only becomes clear when the ring is on the hand. The silverwork holds them close and level, nothing elevated, nothing recessed.
Mother of Pearl is the iridescent inner lining of certain mollusc shells, formed from alternating layers of aragonite platelets and protein in a structure called nacre. It is the same material that builds pearls, but here it remains flat and continuous rather than spherical. The shimmer that moves across the surface, shifting from white to cream to faint rose depending on the angle of light, is a structural phenomenon called thin-film interference, not pigment. The Peridot beside it comes from the highlands of Northern Pakistan, one of the few sources globally where the stone forms in an olivine-rich mantle environment, producing a yellow-green saturation that is distinct from Brazilian or Egyptian stones. The Sapphire grounds the composition with blue depth, its color produced by trace amounts of iron and titanium within the corundum crystal lattice.
The ring design is flat and architectural. Three stones sit in silver bezels that share a continuous band, the metal work polished rather than textured so it does not compete with the surface activity of the stones. It sits close to the finger, reads wide but not heavy, and works in proportion on most hand sizes. At US size 7.5, the stone cluster spans the full width of a finger without overhanging either side.
Made at the Orah Jewels facility in Lahore by artisans who work directly with stone sourced through our Pakistan supply network. The three stones in this ring are all natural, none treated or synthetic. One piece.
