Patang - Nephrite Jade and Topaz Brass Necklace
From the Rangreza collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a necklace named for the kites of Basant. Patang combines Nephrite Jade from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a pendant inspired by the geometry of kites in the Lahore sky, a brass openwork form with a Topaz set at its center, the pale brilliance of the topaz reading as a point of light within the architectural kite shape.
Nephrite Jade from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is an actinolite-tremolite mineral with a fibrous interlocking crystal structure that gives it exceptional toughness and a dense, smooth surface. The green comes from iron within the actinolite, producing the deep, slightly waxy tone that is the signature of genuine nephrite as opposed to the glassier appearance of jadeite. The stones are carefully shaped and placed along the warm gold tone brass chain, the natural variation in each stone's green remaining visible rather than being hidden behind a commercial polishing process. The Topaz at the heart of the kite pendant adds a cool, clear brilliance that contrasts with the depth of the nephrite surrounding it, the faceted stone catching light as the pendant moves with the wearer.
The kite form of the pendant is an openwork design, its structure light and airy despite the geometric precision of the brass work. It anchors the necklace visually at 17.25 inches without adding bulk, the design drawing the eye without overpowering the stones arranged along the chain. The overall piece balances symbolism, material, and wearability in a way that translates the Basant narrative into something you can put on rather than only look at.
