Qudrat - Lapis Lazuli and Emerald Silver Ring
From the Rani collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, a ring that works from the contrast of two stones with no optical overlap. Qudrat sets uncut Lapis Lazuli from Badakhshan, Afghanistan beside a faceted Emerald from Swat Valley, KPK, the dense opaque blue of the lapis meeting the transparent cut green of the emerald in adjacent bezels on a plain silver band.
Lapis Lazuli from Badakhshan is the world's most historically significant source of this stone, traded continuously along ancient routes from Central Asia to Egypt, Mesopotamia, and the Indus Valley for over six millennia. The mineral lazurite within the calcium-rich matrix produces the deep blue that has no equivalent in the natural gemstone world, an opaque, absorbing color that does not reflect light the way transparent stones do but rather holds it. The Emerald set beside it is faceted to amplify exactly the opposite quality: chromium in beryl produces a green that intensifies through faceted internal reflection, brightening as light enters and exits the cut surfaces. Placing these two stones together creates a composition where one stone deepens and one brightens, both within the cool range of the spectrum but operating in entirely different optical registers. The stones were sourced directly through Orah Jewels and Crafts' Lahore-based supply network and set by hand.
The silver band is plain and slightly tapered, the two bezels sitting close together so the stones read as a pair rather than two independent features. At US size 7.5, the ring fits mid-finger and the stone cluster spans comfortably without overreach. The polished silver does not compete with the stones visually.
