Falak - Ruby and White Topaz Silver Ring

Rs.38,500

From the Sunheri Shaam collection by Orah Jewels and Crafts, Falak takes its name from the Urdu word for sky, and it pairs a pear shaped natural ruby with white topaz in a simple silver band that keeps the focus entirely on the stones.

The ruby is sourced from Afghanistan, where the Badakhshan region has produced fine red corundum for centuries, its color owed to trace chromium within the crystal. Set beside it, white topaz adds brightness rather than color: an aluminum silicate that relies on cut and clarity rather than trace elements for its brilliance, faceted small to throw points of light around the ruby the way stars sit around a single planet. White topaz has historically served as one of the more convincing substitutes for diamond, prized for exactly the kind of sparkle it adds here.

The pear shaped cut on the ruby directs the eye along its length rather than settling it in one place, and the plain silver band leaves the stones with nothing to compete against. A quiet, considered pairing.
